WELLSTON — Presley Sexton, 16, along with her horses named Lady and Soldier, appeared in the horse arena on Saturday, July 25.
Sexton belongs to the Country Classics 4-H Club, and will be a junior at Jackson High School in the fall.
“I have been involved in 4-H since I was about five years old, then I started showings when I turned nine,” Sexton recalled. “My sister and I have been involved in 4-H since we were both really young. It has always been a big part of our family. Both of our parents are on the committees.”
Sexton is passionate about showing her animals.
“Some people don’t understand how much work it takes to get to that position,” she told The Courier, “and how good that feeling gets when you accomplish that and get first or second place.”
Her favorite part of Fair Week is Show Day.
“You get all that excitement, you get all that adrenaline going through your body, and you’re like ‘oh my gosh, this is it,’” she said.
This was Sexton’s first year bringing a horse to the fair, but she has shown pigs, rabbits and turkeys. Sexton has served as fair royalty five times, first joining the ranks at the age of 8.
Sexton is an accomplished 4’Her. When showing pigs, she has placed in the Top 10 every year, as well as showmanship in her class every year. When showing rabbits, she placed as grand champion her first year.
This year, Sexton placed first in novice showmanship and first in novice horsemanship.
Sexton said her favorite fair food is deep-fried Oreos.
