Descendants of Joel and Lydia Still Staneart held their reunion Saturday, July 25, at the VFW Post near Albany with the theme, “Down Home Country Celebration.” Vera Richardson welcomed everyone and led the group in prayer.
During the business meeting, Paula Staneart Pickens read the minutes from last year's reunion, which were approved as read. Reports on those who were ill were mentioned and cards were signed for various family members, including Joshua Aburto who is stationed at Ft. Drum, New York. It was reported that Ken Queen passed away. Emails were read from those who could not attend. Attendance was of concern, some were in favor of not sending notification of the reunion if they have not shown an interest in a few years; however, it was decided to make an all out effort to contact as many Stanearts as possible and it was suggested that those who cannot attend could send a monetary donation and/or family information to preserve family history. The date of the next reunion will be announced at a later date and Pickens, Connie Staneart Largent and Joyce Staneart Sheline will be in charge.
The traditional Staneart Family Trivia game was played as a group. It was noted that everyone at the reunion was from the line of Nicholas, except for Bill Kirkendall who was from David's line. Many down on the farm memories were shared. Throughout the day Vera Richardson organized farm games for the children to play. Family antiques, heirlooms and homemade crafts were provided by family members for the silent auction. Gifts were awarded to the following: Oldest, Bill Kirkendall, 78 yearsold; Youngest, Asa Myers, 2 years old; Traveled Farthest, Bill and Phyllis Kirkendall, from Wauseon, Ohio; Guessing buttons game, Phyllis Kirkendall. There were 18 in attendance: John and Carrie Largent, Joe and Joyce Sheline, Bill and Phyllis Kirkendall, Michael and Vera Richardson, Paula Pickens, Angela Allen and Tim Samoniego, Laura Lea, Olivia, Cassandra, Elijah, Lydia, Sophia and Asa Myers. The closing song was “Make New Friends."
