Have you ever spent a restless, agitated night when you tossed and turned for hours, longing for peaceful sleep? Have the fears, troubles, and problems of life loaded you down so that you worried all night, wondering what would happen the next day or about how some need would be met?
King David of Israel knew that kind of heartache, grief, fear, and guilt that people still experience in life. Yet David also found peace, for in Psalm 4:8 he said, “I will both lay me down in peace and sleep, for thou Lord only maketh me dwell in safety.” David was able to sleep in spite of the problems and dangers that surrounded him.
How could David find peaceful sleep when he had so many problems? David believed in God and knew that God would take care of him, and resolve his problems even when David could not see any solution.
In the New Testament, Peter said (*) “casting all your care on him, for he careth for you.” Then Paul wrote that we should not be anxious or worried for anything, but (**) “with prayer and thanksgiving let our requests be known to God.”
We can have the peace of God and be at peace with God when we believe in him and accept his son Jesus Christ. We can also ask God to protect us and give us peaceful sleep.
