Have you ever been criticized? How did it make you feel? Have you ever wondered how other people feel when you criticize them? The Bible tells the story of Miriam and Aaron who criticized their brother Moses.
Numbers 12:1, 2 say that Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman he has married. Also in verse 2, they said, “hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? Hath he not spoken also by us?”
Apparently, Miriam and Aaron were jealous of the authority that God had given Moses as the leader of Israel, and they spoke against his marriage as an excuse for criticizing Moses. The Bible says that the Lord heard their critical remarks and struck Miriam with Leprosy for a short time. Miriam and Aaron learned that it is dangerous to unjustly criticize those whom God has chosen.
This story should remind us to be more careful about criticizing other people, for we can’t see their motives and we often misunderstand each others intentions. If we are overly critical of others, we need to confess this to God and ask for his forgiveness and help to overcome.
