Did you ever play hide and seek? It is just a game, but it is fun to see if you can really hide from someone who is looking for you. This game is not new. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve tried to hide from God after they sinned, but God knew exactly where they were.
In the writings of Amos, the nation of Israel is described as trying to hide from the judgment of God. Amos says that there is no place that Israel can hide to escape the judgment of the captivity in Babylon. It sounds foolish to try to hide from God, but people are still doing it today.
Many people hide behind church membership, thinking that God can’t see what they really are. Others hide behind good deeds or large gifts of money to the church. But God always sees what we are. We just cannot hide from God.
Since we can’t hide from God, what can we do? We can prepare to meet him face to face by having all our sins forgiven by faith in Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:9 says that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
