I think we would all agree that the American way of life has changed in the last few years. Life is more complex, there are more people who are overcome by the problems of everyday living, and young people especially are under pressure to conform to the rest of the world. It is not easy to grow up in this age, when it is not popular to stand up for what is right. I don’t have any easy solutions to the world’s problems, but there is hope.
Daniel 1:8 says that, “Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself.” Daniel made the commitment to live for God while he was in his early teen years, and was a prisoner in a foreign land. It took courage for a young person, far away from home, to go against the crowd and live for God. But Daniel kept his promise, and God rewarded him by giving him political power and great wisdom. Daniel was also given prophecies concerning the events at the end of time.
Daniel’s story should remind us to encourage young people to make a decision to live for God, and then help them keep that commitment by leading them to Jesus Christ.
