Deuteronomy 8:3

The Old Testament records the history of God’s provision for Israel’s needs as they traveled from Egypt to Canaan. God supplied their food by letting it fall from the sky every day, and by having quail fly within their reach. While this was an unusual, miraculous way to supply food, it was encouraging to know that God would take care of his people. The New Testament also contains the same principle, for Philippians 4:19 says “my God shall supply all your needs.”

But the Bible also teaches that there is more to mankind that a body that needs food. God’s word says that man is a living soul, or being, and has a body. As the body must have food, the being or soul of man must also be fed. Mankind has spiritual needs or hunger that God alone can satisfy. Moses spoke to Israel in Deuteronomy 8:3 saying “man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord.”

A person may be successful, wealthy, and well fed, but still be lacking real satisfaction in life. But by believing God’s word and accepting his son Jesus Christ as savior, anyone can have his or her spiritual hunger satisfied forever.
