Have you ever been disappointed? Really disappointed? Has there been something that you worked for, and waited for, but just did not get? Most people are disappointed at some time in life. What can we do when we are disappointed? The Bible tells a story of Moses who received one of the greatest disappointments of all time.
Moses led the people of Israel from Egypt toward the Promised Land for 40 years. Before that he had spent another 40 years in the desert being prepared to lead Israel. So for 80 years he had been faithful to the God of Abraham, and had looked forward to seeing the Promised Land. But Moses sinned and as a result God would not permit his to cross the Jordan River into Canaan. In Deut. 31:2 Moses told the people that the Lord said, “Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.”
What did Moses do when he could not enter the Promised Land? Although he was disappointed, he continued to lead the people as God directed him. He still trusted and obeyed God so long as he lived. Moses also prayed and asked God to let him enter Canaan, but God said no. Moses did not become bitter or rebellious but accepted God’s decision. Hundreds of years later, when the time was right, God granted his requested as Moses talked with Elijah and Jesus at the event described in Matt. 17:3.
Have you been disappointed? God can help you thru the disappointments of life just like he did Moses.
