Dear Vinton County residents:
My name is Chad Reich, and I am a graduate student at Ohio University. For the past several months, I have been working with the Vinton County Cancer Research Group to document the group’s story and the community’s response to cancer and how you are working towards a better future in the community.
Randy Yates, Kim, Barb, the other kind folks at the cancer group, and even the editor of this paper have offered me some guidance (Kim and Barb also fed me delicious chili).
Between now and the end of April, I am collecting stories and photographs to help tell the story. If you are willing to talk with me, I would be grateful. My hope is that the story will shine light on the people working to find a solution in your community in Southeast Ohio.
Each and every one of your experiences is powerful and worthy of being heard. The types of folks I would like to connect with include: people affected by the disease, family members, friends and neighbors who are helping those in need, first responders, and anyone that can share their experience. To make it convenient for you, I will come to a place that is comfortable to you such as the library, Mama Renie’s, or any place of your choosing to meet.
We are all touched by cancer in our lives. I’ve lost two family members to the disease. It’s not an easy thing to discuss, and that’s exactly why I think it is important.
Please reach out to me at CR871917@ohio.edu, by contacting Vinton County Cancer Research on Facebook, by calling/texting me at 515-249-4075, or by reaching out to Randy Yates or any of the kind folks at the cancer group. To learn more about my project, you can ask me anything you want.
Thank you. I look forward to speaking with you about this issue.
