JACKSON — At the end of August, a business in Jackson’s McCarty Crossing shopping center, closed its doors after six years of serving the community.
GNC (General Nutrition Centers) of Jackson was located at 1026 East Main St. since August 2014. The business is one of several now closed following the company filing a Chapter 11 reorganization.
The business had offered vitamins and minerals, herbal supplements, health and beauty items, and weight loss products. The business tried to focus more on helping the customers live a healthier lifestyle.
GNC has been under financial pressure for the past several years as it worked to pay down debt and reposition the business to be more competitive in a challenging operating environment.
The COVID-19 pandemic created a situation where GNC were unable to accomplish its refinancing and the abrupt change in the operating environment had a dramatic negative impact on its business. As a result, GNC felt the best opportunity for it to continue to improve its capital structure and address certain operational issues was to restructure through a Chapter 11 reorganization.
The Chapter 11 process will allow GNC to accelerate these strategies and invest in the appropriate areas to evolve in the future, while improving its capital structure and balance sheet.
