COLUMBUS — Over summer break, two students from Oak Hill traveled to Columbus to be a part of the 2019 All-Ohio State Youth Choir.
Brianna Baker and Emilee Lewis, two juniors at Oak Hill High School, spent around 18 days preparing and rehearsing to sing along with other students at the 2019 Ohio State Fair in late July in Columbus.
The All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir, founded in 1963, is composed of a total of 200 superior musicians hailing from 71 counties and more than 150 high schools across Ohio.
The choir members are selected each spring on the basis of their ability and experience, the recommendation of their high school voice director, and the consent and support of their parent or guardian.
Five days before the opening of the Ohio State Fair, the new choir meets at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus and launches into a rigorous schedule that includes vocal training, sectional and full rehearsals, solo auditions and marching instruction.
The All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir, directed by Dr. Jon C. Peterson, sang between six and eight concerts each day during the fair, marching up to 10 miles a day to various performance sites around the 360-acre Ohio Expo Center.
