LIBERTY TWP. — The Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash that took place on Nov. 18.
The crash reportedly occurred on Beaver Pike (County Road 76) just one mile west of Whaleytown Road (Township Road 232) in Liberty Township. Dead is Wallace L. Johnson, 81, of Beaver.
At approximately 4:04 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, emergency responders were dispatched to the crash involving a 1992 Lincoln Town Car.
Johnson, who was the driver of the Lincoln, traveled off the right side of the roadway and then struck an embankment and concrete culvert before going airborne.
Johnson and his passenger, Shirley T. Bowman, 85, of Beaver, both sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash.
Both Johnson and Bowman were transported by Jackson County EMS to Holzer Hospital in Jackson. Johnson was then transferred to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia, where he passed away.
The Patrol reported that seat belts were in use at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
