JACKSON — The Jackson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO), as of Jan. 1, 2020, is now accepting alternative payments.
The Jackson County Commissioners voted in late December 2019 to adopt a resolution to allow the JCSO to accept alternative payments of credit or debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay for background checks, concealed carry licenses, wrecker service salvage vehicle title fees, sex offender fees, and violent offender fees.
Square Inc. will be utilized for the alternative payment processing service, along with their Square Terminal, which will be able to track the various payment types.
A surcharge will be mandatory for all alternative payments processed through the Square Terminal. Customers will pay a $2 surcharge for payments under $70 per transaction; a $3 surcharge will be charged for payments $71 to $99.99 and payments over $100 will have a 3.75% surcharge.
All individuals must present their card upon payment for processing via the Square Terminal. All payments will reflect separately, the fee for services rendered and the surcharge. The only exception to showing their credit card are payments made via Apple Pay or Google Pay, where their mobile devices are used.
All individuals will receive a receipt from the Square Terminal for their transaction via email, text or printed receipt. All Square Receipts will also be reflected in the overall payment receipt book and payment record.
Square Terminal payments will be processed, on or before, the seventh day of the following month.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office will continue to also accept cash, checks and money orders as well.
