WELLSTON — Wellston Service Director William “Bill” Shumate has released his monthly reports for the month of January and February 2020.

The reports were released during Wellston City Council meetings.

January 2020:

  • There were four building and demo permits granted.
  • A total of 11 tons of cold patch was filled in potholes.
  • 680 foot of underground drain was replaced on South New York Avenue and 14th Street.
  • Rebuilt two catch basins on New York Avenue and East 1st Street.
  • Gallons of freshwater treated: 40.936 million gallons
  • Gallons of wastewater treated: 46 million gallons
  • Shumate noted that the dif
  • ference in the gallons of fresh and wastewater treated has to due to the stormwater getting into the sewer lines.
  • There were 12 main water lines breaks, and two service lines repairs.
  • Installed two new sanitary sewer manholes.
  • Vactor truck called out for 11 sewer backups.
  • Installed 102 new leak detectors/meters.
  • Fire Department/EMS runs: 37 calls
  • Police Department activities: 691 calls

February 2020

  • There were four building and demo permits granted.
  • The street department fixed more potholes and started repairing guard rails.
  • There were three main water line breaks and installed new leak detectors/meters.
  • Gallons of freshwater treated: 38.174 million gallons
  • Gallons of wastewater treated: 61 million gallons
  • Shumate noted that there has been a lot of rain in February. The difference in the gallons of fresh and wastewater treated has to due to the stormwater getting into the sewe
  • r lines.
  • Fire Department/EMS runs: 22 calls
  • Police Department activities: 715 calls
  • Shumate is the head of the Department of Public Service and Safety in the City of Wellston. He is the supervising authority over the police and fire departments. His office is also responsible for the repair and maintenance of city streets, water mains, pumps, pipes, storm drains and culverts.
