Sunday, Aug. 31
- Vinton — The Sheriff’s Office received a call from an individual alleging that a female subject had broken into his residence. A deputy arrived in the area and met with the complainant, who advised that while in the shower he heard his dogs barking and allegedly found a female subject lying on his kitchen floor. The female reportedly left the residence before deputies arrived. The female, Serena M. Burns, 32, of Vinton, was found in a vehicle near the area. While deputies spoke with Burns, she was allegedly sweating profusely, had a runny nose, and was moving her head and body constantly. Burns was reportedly identified by the home owner as the individual in his residence. Burns was arrested and taken to South Eastern Ohio Regional Jail and charged with burglar/breaking and entering.
Wednesday, Sept. 4
- Londonderry — The Sheriff’s Office reportedly received a call of children playing near the road on Route 50 in Londonderry. A deputy arrived and spoke with Larry A. R. Potts, 48, of Londonderry, who advised him that he was watching the children for an individual who had went to the store. The grandmother of the children, who had legal custody, was contacted and advised Potts was to be there and that she was returning home. Several hours later, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from the grandmother stating that Potts had allegedly assaulted one or more of the children and had stolen a lamp. While deputies spoke with the grandmother, Potts allegedly pulled into the driveway and got out of the car holding the lamp. Potts was reportedly advised to wait in his vehicle while deputies spoke with the grandmother. Potts then reportedly backed out of the driveway, with the trunk lid open on the vehicle, and drove down the road. The deputy pursued the vehicle and was able to apprehend Potts a short distance away and took him into custody without incident. Inside the vehicle, deputies reportedly found a small bag of a crystal-like substance, drug paraphernalia and scales with residue. Potts was taken to South Eastern Ohio Regional Jail and charged with assault, endangering children, failure to comply with order or signal of an officer, obstructing official business, and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. A bond hearing was scheduled for Sept. 5.
