JACKSON — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshal Service’s Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) reportedly performed residence checks on registered sex offenders in Jackson County on April 23.
The checks were carried out by five separate teams who went to each registered sex offender in Jackson County, of which there are more than 30.
Each registered sex offender is required to register their address; must register any change of address three days prior to any change of address; and cannot live within 1,000 feet of a school.
The reason for the checks is to make sure that all sex offenders are following the laws in which they are required to abide by.
The teams reportedly found two offenders who are now facing prosecution for not following the conditions of the law. Those cases will be sent for prosecutorial review.
