OAK HILL — The Lady Oaks downed Chesapeake in a Divisional II sectional semi-final on Tuesday, 3-2, and now head to Wellston to play a familiar opponent.
Oak Hill rallied to score two runs in the sixth inning to keep the team’s season alive. Clinging to a one-run lead, Kailey Adkins pitched a one-two-three seventh to clinch the postseason victory.
The two teams traded zeroes for the first four innings. Chesapeake stranded a runner on third base in the first inning, and Oak Hill likewise couldn’t score after Andrea Lewis doubled in the Oaks’ first frame.
Oak Hill got on the board in the fifth inning. Kyla Simmonds walked to open the inning, with Tamron McCain and Timea Burnett also drawing walks with one out to load the bases. Chesapeake’s pitcher recorded a second out, but Cate Brisker got the clutch hit with an RBI single to center.
It didn’t take long for Chesapeake to answer. Adkins surrendered two walks to open the sixth and both scored on a single to give the opponents a 2-1 lead.
From there, fireworks: Desirae Sharp tripled to lead off the Oaks’ sixth inning, and Adkins helped her cause by belting a home run to left. That put Oak Hill ahead 3-2, which would be the final score.
On Thursday, the Oaks will head north on Route 93 to play the Wellston Golden Rockets at 5 p.m. Wellston cruised to a 10-0 win over Nelsonville-York on Tuesday. (See related recap.)
