RIO GRANDE — The Lady Vikings cross country team is headed back to regionals.
And, for the second-straight year, the team earned the title of district champion.
Vinton County qualified for the regional cross country meet as a team, while Viking junior Quentin Campbell and Jackson senior Mazie Wechter qualified as individuals.
The Vikings were led by senior Rylee Fee, who finished second overall with a time of 19:55. Vinton County’s Olivia Mayers and Lexie Walker followed. Mayers finished sixth with a time of 20:26.36, while Walker was seventh at 20:31.13.
The rest of the qualifying Vikings are Emily Reynolds (29th, 21:58), Olivia Wells (40th, 22:41), Abrianna McManis (49th, 23:21) and Sydney Quackenbush (59th, 24:09).
Campbell finished his race in 17:48, good for 27th place. Wechter finished 9th overall in the girls race in 20:39.
The top seven teams and top 28 individuals qualify for regionals. While Vinton County girls finished second overall, the size of the meet leads to the top two teams being crowned district champions.

The Oak Hill boys finished 16th as a team, while Wellston and Jackson had three and four individuals compete, respectively, and did not record team scores.
