ALBANY — Alexander’s bats are heating up as the postseason nears.

The Spartans collected 18 base hits, defeating the visiting Oak Hill Oaks 12-7 in a non-league softball game on Tuesday.

Alexander had seven players who finished with multi-hit games, improving to 15-4 on the season.

The Spartans gave up three runs in the top of the first, but quickly erased the deficit thanks to a seven-run bottom half of the first.

The Spartans were able to load the bases with one out in the first, and Jadyn Mace and Audrey Ross each singled home a run to make it 3-2.

Halie Miller put Alexander ahead for good with a two-run double. Ashley Cooper was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. An error, walk and hit followed, and when the dust settled the Spartans led 7-3.

Mace’s solo home run provided a run in the second, increasing the lead to 8-3.

The Oaks attempted a comeback, scoring two in the third and one run in each the fourth and fifth innings to cut Alexander’s lead to 8-7.

The Spartans answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Madisyn Moleski hit a single and Erin Scurlock doubled to put runners on second and third.

A groundout scored the first run, then Mace, Ross, Miller and Cooper followed with hits to provide Alexander with the 12-7 margin.

Brooke Casto started in the pitching circle, and was relieved by Gracie Hill in the fifth inning.

Scurlock, Mace, Ross and Miller all had three hits in the win.

Scurlock had a double and RBI, Mace had a home run and two RBIs, Ross had an RBI while Miller had two doubles and four RBIs.

Moleski, Casto and Cooper had two hits apiece, with Moleski driving home a run.

Oak Hill (14-8) finished with 10 hits. Cate Brisker, Desirae Sharp and Kailey Adkins all hit home runs, as each finished with two hits and two RBIs.

Brenna Davis took the loss, with Adkins entering the game to pitch in the fifth inning.

Alexander travels to Belpre on Thursday and to Meigs on Friday. The Spartans will also play a doubleheader at Unioto High School on Saturday.
