Vinton County Vikings

The Vinton County Vikings pose for a picture after defeating the Alexander Spartans on Tuesday. Sophomore setter Cameron Zinn picked up her 1,000th career assist as the Vikings are alone in first place in the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division standings.

This was the matchup Vinton County had been looking forward to for weeks, and it was going to let the opportunity go to waste.

The Vikings battled tooth and nail against Alexander, and when the dust settled, it was the Vikings who walked out victorious in five sets: 25-23, 20-25, 29-27, 20-25, 15-13.

It snapped a 17-year losing streak to the Spartans and allowed the Vikings to claim first-place in the TVC with a 13-1 record, 6-0 in conference play.

Sydney Smith led the way with 23 kills, 14 digs and five aces. Maylea Huff followed with 16 digs, 11 kills and three aces.

Lacy Ward added 11 kills, 10 digs and three aces while Zoey Kiefer had 10 kills. Kerrigan Ward and Josie Hembree complied 39 and 25 digs a piece.

Cameron Zinn finished with 26 digs and 52 assists, including the game-winning assist to Smith which tallied her 1,000th career assist.

Northwest 3, Oak Hill 0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-14)

The Oaks had trouble dealing with Northwest’s Addsiyn Newman at the serving line and Haidyn Wamsley at the net.

They drop to 4-7 on the season.

Chillicothe 3, Jackson 0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-20)

The Ironladies dropped their season Frontier Athletic Conference contest of the season.

They move to 6-4 on the year.

The Ironmen where on the verge of being shutout before Joe Crabtree found the back of the net with 18 seconds left.

They move to 6-3 on the season.


Chillicothe 4, Jackson 1

Brynlee Vermillion scored the lone goal for the Ironladies, who currently sit at 2-4-1 on the season.
