McARTHUR — With a league title already sewn up, the Wellston Rockets earned a make-up victory at Vinton County on May 9.

The Lady Vikes closed out their season at home with the 9-4 defeat.

Wellston scored two runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings. Vinton County got three back in the third, but Wellston scored three more times in the final two innings to secure the win.

Jakelyn Brown closed out her senior season for Vinton County with two hits and a run scored. Lacy Stapleton, another senior, added a hit.

Breanna Sexton doubled and drove in two runs, while Kerrigan Ward added a double. Sydney Smith, Josie Hembree and Abby Faught added singles. Sydnee Knox walked twice and scored a run.

For Wellston, Molly Smith and Ashley Compston combined to surrender just two earned runs on eight hits, striking out a total of eight batters.

Compston went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run.

Abby Faught took the loss for Vinton County, pitching three innings and giving up five earned runs. Kerrigan Ward threw the final four innings, giving up a lone earned run and striking out two.

Vinton County finished its solid 2019 campaign with a 14-10 record, including a 6-6 record in the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division.

Wellston, meanwhile, improved to an 11-1 record in the TVC-Ohio to close out the regular season.
