Wellston Softball 2019

NELSONVILLE — The Nelsonville-York softball had a difficult time keeping up with the visiting Wellston Golden Rockets on Tuesday, April 16.

Wellston earned a 15-2, six-inning victory over the Buckeyes.

The game was tied at 1-1 going to the third when Wellston scored three runs to go ahead. The Rockets added two in the fourth, fourth in the fifth and five more in the sixth to lead 15-1. N-Y added a final run in the bottom of the sixth.

Jenna Johnston led Wellston’s 13-hit attack with a 3 for 5 day at the dish. She drove in five runs.

Molly Smith was 2 for 4, hitting a fifth-inning home run for Wellston. She had four RBIs and two runs. Sydney Spencer, Ashley Compston and Brayley Rainer each had two-hit games for Wellston.

Kylie Christa had a hit and run for Nelsonville-York, while Taylor Shockey added a single. Sydney Rawlins scored a run.

Ryleigh Giffin took the loss, pitching six innings. She allowed seven earned runs, walking a batter.
