The Lady Vikings couldn't have asked for a better start to their 2019 volleyball season.

With a clean sweep of Paint Valley on Aug. 22, the team improved to 3-0 in non-conference play. The team hosts Nelsonville-York on Tuesday to begin Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division play.

Against Paint Valley, the Lady Vikes won a narrow first set, 28-26, before winning the next two sets 25-19 each.

The team recorded 15 aces, with Sydney Smith tallying the most with seven. Maylea Huff had three, Josie Hembree and Cameron Zinn both had two apiece, and Lacy Ward had one.

Smith also led the team in kills with nine, while Ward recorded nine.

Zinn tallied a whopping 33 sets in the match, also recording eight digs on defense.

Huff and Kerrigan Ward were the top defensive players, recording 11 and 12 digs, respectively versus Paint Valley.

The team hosts the Lady Buckeyes on Tuesday, then travels to Athens on Thursday.

Vinton County previously swept Southeastern on Tuesday, Aug. 20, by set scores of 28-26, 25-19 and 25-11. In the season opener, Vinton County defeated Eastern: 25-12, 25-18 and 25-10.
