WELLSTON — The Wellston High School Alumni Association has been monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic hoping to find a way to proceed with its 130th annual Wellston High School Alumni Banquet.
On Monday, April 20, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that all Ohio schools will be closed through the rest of the academic year. This decision, according to the Association, will make utilizing its banquet site at the Wellston Middle School cafetorium highly unlikely.
The Alumni committee is also aware that many attending will be “high risk” and social distancing will be very difficult. Also, for many alumni there will be an additional risk if they must travel.
After lengthy discussion and careful deliberation, the Alumni Board is reluctantly announcing that this year’s Wellston High School Alumni Banquet, that was slated for Saturday, May 23, will be canceled.
As soon as possible the Alumni Committee will be scheduling meetings with the Wellston High School Alumni Association to explore and discuss the feasibility of an alternate date.
The Association hopes each individual class will be able to find a safe way to celebrate. If your class chooses to have an event for your classmates, the Association encourage those classes to utilize the Wellston High School Alumni Association’s Facebook page to communicate and coordinate.
