Lake Alma

2019 marked the 23rd annual Lake Alma Beach Party, sponsored by the Friends of Lake Alma. Apparently, it was the last one, as the group has decided to change things up this year, however, COVID-19, put a damper on 2020 plans.

LAKE ALMA — The 23rd annual Lake Alma Beach Party that was held the summer of 2019 was apparently the final year of that event.

The Friends of Lake Alma announced this year that the beach party is being replaced with a new event entitled “Summer Kickoff.”

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and statewide restrictions, the group has canceled the event for this year.

“It (beach party) was changing this year and it was going to be a lot of the same with some new things added,” explained Friends of Lake Alma Representative Lise Davis. “We were going to try to freshen things up and try to get more interest in what we were doing.”

Davis said, “The beach party attendance had been going down for years. We will assess other scheduled events for the year as restrictions change.”

Davis explained that since the event was canceled the Lake Alma Royalty will not be holding a contest this year.

“If things get better and other festivals are allowed to have parades later in the summer then we will be inviting past court members from the last five years to join us in parades,” stated Davis. “Thank you for your understanding from your Friends of Lake Alma and Royalty committee.”

The Friends of Lake Alma also canceled the Memorial Day Fun event as well.
