WELLSTON — The Jackson County Fair will look a little different this year.
On Thursday, May 14, the Jackson County Fair Board met to discuss the 2020 Jackson County Fair that is slated for July 16 to July 25.
Chris Smalley, a member of the Jackson County Fair Board, shared that after much thought and in depth discussion, the board voted unanimously to move forward with the Jr. Fair portion (livestock shows, sale, etc.) of the Jackson County Fair.
“Due to these unprecedented times, the board has decided to forego all Midway, and Grandstand activities this year,” stated Smalley. “This means no carnival rides, grandstand entertainment or commercial vendors on site.”
Smalley added, “While it is the boards full intention to move forward with the Jr. Fair, please understand this is a very fluid situation. In the coming days and weeks many committee meetings will be held in effort to map out what all options are available to allow this portion to continue.”
The Jackson County Fair Board explained that they will be monitoring the COVID-19 trends at both state and county levels, as well as any decisions rendered from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s Office, Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio Fair Managers Association and the Jackson County Health Commissioner.
“Given this ever changing situation, a more definite decision will be made by the board on or before June 20 as to what the Jr. fair shows will look like,” stated Smalley. “Understanding the safety of our children and all fairgoers is our number one priority.”
Smalley said, “We appreciate your patience and support during these trying times. Please stay tuned for updates and further announcements in the coming days.”
