Voters in Oak Hill and Scioto Township will soon vote on levies.

Below is a summary of what levy funds would go toward if passed. The Jackson County Auditor’s Office provided the costs and estimated revenue of each levy.

Oak Hill:

Five years ago, residents in the Village of Oak Hill, voted to pass many tax levies. Some of those levies are once again up for election.

The levies that are up for a vote are operating and maintaining the village cemeteries, current expenses, maintaining park and recreational services and street lighting.

Cemeteries:

The levy for operating and maintaining the village cemeteries is a renewal for 2 mills for 5 years.

Village officials explained that the money from this levy goes toward operating and maintaining the village cemeteries. The funds are spent on employee wages, gas for mowing and weed-eating and fixing grave stones.

The cemetery levy would produce an estimated $25,554.42 per year. The owner of $100,000 home would pay $60.86 per year.

Current Expenses:

The levy labeled “current expenses of the village” is a renewal for 3.8 mills for 5 years.

Village officials explained that the money from this levy goes into the village’s General Fund for operating the Village Building and the Police Department.

The current expenses levy would produce an estimated $48,553.41 per year. The owner of $100,000 home would pay $115.64 per year.

Park and Recreational:

The levy for maintaining services regarding park and recreational is a renewal for 2 mills for 5 years.

Village officials explained that the money from this levy goes toward operating and maintaining services at the Margaret Ann Pool and Park during the summer months.

The Parks and Rec levy would produce an estimated $25,554.42 per year. The owner of $100,000 home would pay $60.86 per year.

Street Lighting:

The levy for street lighting is a renewal of 1.5 mills with an increase of 1.2 mills for 5 years.

This levy, village officials stated, pays the utility bills to keep the Village of Oak Hill’s lights on.

The Street Lights levy would produce an estimated $36,715.94 per year. The owner of $100,000 home would pay $87.65 per year.

Scioto Township:

The levy for fire protection services in Scioto Township is a replacement for 3 mills for 5 years.

The fire protection levy would produce an estimated $105,396.66 per year. The owner of $100,000 home would pay $105.00 per year.
