The largest piece of news to come down from the Ohio Governor’s Office this week was the announcement of the official closure of the state’s K-12 schools, public and private, for the remainder of the school year.

“Why are we keeping schools closed?,” DeWine said during his April 20 press conference. “We’ve flattened the curve, but the virus remains. Also, to go back to school now with a relatively small amount of time left — many educators have expressed to me that this wouldn’t be a good idea even if the health situation was resolved.”

Students will now continue their assigned coursework completely remotely. Schools in Vinton and Jackson counties have already implemented educational plans packed with online resources and educational resource packets for students to use at home.

“We have to think about the risk to teachers, students, and our communities,” DeWine said.
